Saturday, December 5th @ The Rosendale Cafe, 434 Main St, Rosendale NY. 8pm, $10
This string-band specializes in old-time Appalachian, folk, blues, jug-band, and bluegrass music. Currently based out of Philadelphia, these three young players originally hail from New York City, and have played folk music throughout the East Coast on countless street corners and venues, including Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival (NY), Champlain Valley Folk Festival (VT), Club Passim (Boston), Floyd Fest (VA), and many other prominent venues and festivals. World renowned for their victory on the 2007 "People in Their Twenties Competition" on Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion - as members of the former old-time band turned rock band, The Powder Kegs, the Colonels continue to perform, write, and record to celebrate the joys of life and American music. ***A message from fiddler Sam McDougle: Hey there HVBA friends! Hope you can make it to one of these dates! The Rosendale show will be intimate and they have great sound (and great food!). The Babycakes show will be more of a late-night college party, but will be fun too! Hope to see you at one of them! Love, -Sam
"They just have so much life and energy. They're amazing."
-- Garrison Keillor, A Prairie Home Companion
"This is lovingly rendered music designed to be heard across Appalachian hills and in juke joints sans amps, with vibrato-free and often ragged-but-right vocals recalling Leadbelly and Hank Williams, and, when they join their voices, The Band."
