Crooked Still, with Mike and Ruthy opening the show
Friday, April 3 at 8:00pm - Crooked Still is an ensemble effort of inspired music making, moving from their folk roots to a new directions that are impossible to pigeonhole. While honoring their folk roots, Crooked Still's genre bending sound is the combination of five distinctive talents who are not content to limit the mselves to any one project or style of music.
"It's hard to pin down our music," bass player Corey DiMario says. "We play improvised old time music, bluegrass, folk and our own songs within the broad context of a string band. Like a lot of today's bands, we have modern and traditional influences that confuse the boundaries. We want to keep blurring those lines to make something all our own."
Crooked Still is Aoife O'Donovan on vocals, guitar, baritone ukulele, piano, and glockenspiel; Brittany Haas on five string fiddle; Dr. Gregory Liszt on banjo; Tristan Clarridge on cello and fiddle; and Corey DiMario on double bass and tenor guitar.
Mike and Ruthy toured internationally for seven years with indie string-band The Mammals, and now are striking out on their own. Michael Merenda and Ruth Ungar Merenda have created a gorgeous new acoustic folk recording on their label, Humble Abode Music.
