When: Saturday, March 10 - 1-5pm
Where: Christ Church - 20 Carroll Street, Poughkeepsie
Tickets: $50/Members - $55/Non-Members
This workshop was wildly popular in October and everyone who had the luck to attend it asked for a repeat. So repeat we will.
The cost is $50/members and $55/non-members for a four-hour session and the songs will all be new this time around. Trust me, if you love to sing, if you want to learn more about harmony, if you just love having fun for an afternoon....you should be there!
In General: We'll work on basics of chord-based bluegrass harmonies, tips on blend, technique, ornamentation and more. The workshop is "hands on," with lots of singing and (depending on the time) opportunities to break up into smaller groups to work on duets and trios with other workshop members. Recording devices are encouraged, since as well as teaching the "how to" we also provide workable harmony parts for the songs we teach. Everything is taught by ear, with word sheets. The workshop is limited to 20 participants plus organizers.
Workshop: In this time slot, we focus on harmony basics, finding harmonies above and below the lead (tenor and baritone parts) as well as harmony "stacks" and more, as we have time. The idea is that everyone comes away understanding how harmonies are made and some strategies for finding harmonies on the fly, such as in jam situations ... and of course a working understanding of three to four songs that are great to sing.
