This is a fine collection of songs from the Virginia based band Lost & Found, which last year marked its 30th year. Allen Mills, bass player and founding member, plays on all 14 cuts, and the CD contains songs from the current band as well as past configurations. There is a consistency of professional musicianship and recording throughout that ties this package together, plus the songs are all interesting and well chosen. Allen Mills is a great singer and songwriter himself, and two of his numbers are found here, “If Today Was The Last Day” and “Sweet Rosie By The River”. There are also songs written by Pete Goble, Randall Hylton, and Randall's sister, Wanda Dalton.
Of special note is the mandolin playing and singing of founding member Dempsey Young, who passed away in 2006. If you never saw or heard Dempsey in a live performance, you missed a great one, which is not to sell short the current mandolin player, Scott Napier. A few years ago I saw Scott playing some shows with the Josh Williams Band, and he can pic it. In fact, Lost & Found has had many great musicians pass through its ranks throughout the years, and yet its style of great music has remained.
I recommend this CD, whether you're new to the band or have been following their music for years.
