| Farewell, Earl! |
| Earl Scruggs, the bluegrass banjo player whose hard-driving picking style influenced generations of players and helped shape the sound of 20th-century country music with his guitar-playing partner, Lester Flatt, died on Wednesday in a Nashville hospital. He was 88. Here is the entire NY Times article. What a profound loss for all of us. |

3rd Annual Tenor Guitar Gathering
Astoria, Oregon May 31 - June 3, 2012
From Carol Beaugard:
Dear Friends,
I always like to recognize venues and promoters who support bluegrass. The Emelin Theater in Mamaroneck, NY has presented its bluegrass series for 30 years. This Sunday, April 1st, the theater is holding a fundraiser in commemoration of the series hoping to raise funds to continue the series' and raise much needed support and awareness of the outstanding music performed by the music's top artists.
I'm humbled to share that the fundraiser is also honoring me for my almost 30 years of service to bluegrass as host of my show on WFDU-FM and WAMU, as well as my work as the host of the bluegrass series.
The series was founded and promoted by Doug Tuchman and J.J. Mautner and continues today thanks to the wonderful work of Arnie Fleischer.
The event is open to the public and you can still be part of the activities - it's not to late to plan on joining us! It's being held at the Point Beach Yacht Club and will feature music. If you' are available you're cordially invited to attend. We just lost Earl Scruggs and during my presentation I'll be sharing some words about his extraordinary contribution to the music.
Thanks so much for your kind attention and continued support of bluegrass. |
