Sara Kohno Plays Tonight

Japanese mandolin sensation Sarah Kohno is here in America for a very limited time and playing just one engagement--Friday February 17th at Gomen Kudasai in New Paltz, NY.
In her native Japan, Sara fronts Pirates Canoe, a roots music-loving band hopelessly stuck somewhere between American and Japanese persuasion. The band has recently release a CD of the same name. This versatile ensemble can range from between two to six members and began performing together in the summer of 2009 in the Kansai area of Japan. Its members enjoy a variety of genres (Irish, jam, soul, rock, etc.) and a healthy love of the old, as well as new self-penned, songs. The band's name, Pirates Canoe, pays tribute to the former location of Hudson Valley Bluegrass Association jam sessions in Poughkeepsie where Sara impressed the locals and made many friends during her visit in the summer of 2009.

HVBA YouTube Channel - Too Blue
Fred Robbins has put together another very, very impressive video of the HVBA Showcase presentation of Too Blue last month. Working only with still photos and the sound track of Too Blue's newest CD, Trouble With The Grey, he has captured the evening for all of you to enjoy. We hope you will visit our YouTube Channel, take a look at the Too Blue video and the others there and, while you are at the site, sign up as a subscriber. Subscribers are automatically notified each time a new video is added to the channel. Thanks to George Nasca for the photos and a huge thanks goes out (again) to Fred Robbins - a master at his craft.

From Our Readers
From C.B. Smith:
We're doing a show on 2/18 at the Liberty Public House in Rhinebeck. It's going to be a special night for our band because we've hired a video crew to shoot the show. We're hoping to get enough good footage to put out a concert DVD, or at least something to put up on YouTube. We want to fill the place with bluegrass fans. Download the special HVBA coupon here. |
